WHITE ROCK, BC.
After going winless last weekend, the White Rock Whalers picked up a solid win against a tough Richmond Sockeyes club to split the weekend with a win and a loss to Delta in a match-up against the conference's two top teams.
White Rock at Richmond, November 7
White Rock Goalie Garin Wickstrom's 40 saves helped backstop the Whalers' 3-2 win over the second palace, Richmond Sockeyes, on the road at Minoru Arena.
The Sockeyes scored the game's first goal in the first, but White Rock's Jonah Ussher equalized with his first goal of the game and 10th of the year. The second frame saw the Whalers take a 3-2 lead off Quinn Orr's goal, Usshers's second of the game, and a goal on the power play. White Rock's special teams had a good showing, killing five of six penalties and allowing just one power-play goal.
In the third, Wickstrom closed the door on all of Richmond's 14 shots in the final period to secure the win. White Rock's special teams had a good showing, killing five of six penalties and allowing just one power-play goal.
Delta at White Rock, November 9
In the weekend's second game, White Rock fell 4-1. The Whalers had their hands complete with the first-place Delta Ice Hawks. Wickstrom would have a busy night in goal as he faced 56 shots. Delta would put on 20 shots in the first period and 21 in the second.
For the second consecutive game, the Whalers would score first as Jonah Ussher had another power-play goal and his third goal of the week. Ussher's goal would account for the only score in the first period. Delta would score the second period's only goal.
The third period would be the difference, as Delta would score three unanswered goals.
