Whalers Sail on with Two More Wins

WHITE ROCK, BC.

After another weekend sweep of their opponents, the White Rock Whalers are riding a five-game winning streak after a 5-3 win against Costal (Gibsons) and a 6-1 victory over Surrey.

Whalers at Coastal Tsunami, September 20, 2024

On Friday, the Whalers took the ferry to Gibson’s on the Sunshine Coast to take on expansion Costal Tsunami in front of their home crowd.

Whalers’ Head Coach and General Manager, Brien Gemmell, was excited about the trip and road trip opportunity for his players and team.

“Coastal being new and having a road trip with a ferry was a good getaway; the prep was different, and the players held up well,” Gemmell said.

The Tsunami entered the game on a three-game winning streak, boasting an undefeated 3-0 record in the early season.

After conceding a goal early in the first, the Whalers managed to get on the board with a Justin Osborne goal to tie things at the end of one.  Whiterock would continue to build offensively, scoring two more goals in the second from Jeevin Bal and Zachary Johns while allowing just one goal from Coastal.

The third period would see goals from the Whalers’ Cash Dumka-Jones and

Max Lyons, while Whitrock would allow a single goal from Costal.

Goalie Zach MacDonald would start in net and make 35 saves on 38 shots.

“They [Whalers] did a good job of pitting together a quality performance in front of a sell-out crowd,” said  Brien Gemmell, the Whalers’  Head Coach.

Whalers vs Surrey, September 21, 2024

The Whalers would take on Surrey the following Saturday at home, which was a short turnaround after a long day of travel.

“We didn’t get off the ferry and back home until 1 a.m., and we knew we would have to turn around and prepare a well-rested team,”  said Whiterock Head Coach Brien Gemmell.

The quick turnaround and any fatigue from the trip the night before didn’t seem to have a significant impact, as the Whalers sailed to a 6-1 victory over Surrey.

Surrey would score their lone goal in the first, while the Whlaers would surge ahead with six unanswered goals, with two from  Devon Mahil. Zachary Johns, Keagan Bankier

Kaden Charpentier and  Quinn Orr would all score goals for Whiterock.

In goal, Garin Wickstrom would make 19 saves on 20 shots in picking up the win.
